3 people in custody
Ruvuma Regional Police Commander (RPC), Mihayo Msikhea confirmed the incident saying the suspects were arrested on August 16 in the region.
“They were found with explosive devises complete with detonating cords,” detailed RPC Msokhela.
He said the suspects were arrested following a crackdown by the force conducted in Nandembo village after being tipped off.
“The claimed explosive devises were stolen from a road Construction Company,” he said but according to him, the seized explosive devises are the kind used to explode rocks in gold mines.
“Earlier information we gathered is that the suspects were planning to take the explosives to Mozambique for gold mining,” he added.
RPC Msikhela identified the suspects as James Mwaurambo (33), Nuru Abdul (20) and Dickson Jumanne (30).
“We are still looking for other people who are linked to the seizure of the explosive devises,” he summed up urging the public to forward any information that may lead to their capture.
