“I am ready to sacrifice myself for the betterment of Tanzania,” Dr Magufuli declared as he addressed a CCM meeting held yesterday in Dar es Salaam. He was accompanied by President Jakaya Kikwete along with scores of other party cadres.
He promised to deliver a powerful speech at the official launch of his campaign trail at the Jangwani grounds on Friday and called on his supporters to turn out in large numbers.
“I would like to assure you that I am the right person capable of ruling this country and bringing about development,” said the presidential hopeful.
Dr Magufuli, who is the Works Minister, said he knows the challenges that Tanzanians go through and pledged to deal with them promptly if given the opportunity to become the next president.“I have been in the government for twenty good years so I know the problems and solutions for Tanzanians,” he said.
“Unity among us is the only path to winning the coming elections and to form a government that will work for the benefit of the people,” he added.
Dr Magufuli said that he has never failed in any of his assignment since he took a government post and he will likewise not fail when he takes office.
On her part, Magufuli’s running mate Samia Suluhu pledged to prioritise national development and the people’s welfare with a keen focus on marginalised groups especially women and children.
“I call upon women in the country to make right the decision when they go to vote...when it comes to women empowerment and providing for children, leave it to me,” she reassured the nation calling on both men and women to put their trust in the duo.
Earlier, President Kikwete praised Dr Magufuli as a God fearing person, hardworking, decisive and visionary.
“Dr Magufuli deserves to be the next president because he is a dedicated patriot, focused and result based...he doesn’t like laziness,” the president said.
“Tanzania will achieve her planned development only under the stewardship of Dr Magufuli and Suluhu,” he said.
“These two are the engines to drive the country’s development and they know what Tanzanians need and how to deliver these needs,” he added.
Kikwete said CCM believes in Dr Magufuli and his running mate and will work hard to make sure he makes it to State House come October.
CCM Regional Chairman, Ramadhani Madabida assured president Kikwete, Dr Magufuli and Suluhu that the CCM cadres in Dar es Salaam will make sure they win the election.
“We are ready and we will not fail...CCM is still strong and it will continue to govern the country towards development,” he said.
