“Lowassa should tell Tanzanians where Balali is and bring him back. Failure to do so, I’ll take him to court,” she said. “Whether Lowassa becomes president or not, I want him to bring back Mr Balali immediately,” she emphasised.
She made these remarks when addressing a campaign rally in Mpwapwa district’s Mazae Ward. Mpwapwa constituency’s CCM parliamentary aspirant George Malima Lubeleje also attended the meeting.
“We know that Mr Balali is dead and if he doesn’t bring him back as he claims, I’ll go to court which will compel him to bring back the former Bank of Tanzania governor,” Ms Mshama insisted. The government maintains that Mr Balali died in the United States, but a few days ago Mr Lowassa claimed that he was still alive and that if he (Mr Lowassa) is elected, he would bring him back in the country and be charged of corruption.
Speaking at the same campaign meeting, Deputy Minister for Lands, Housing and Human Settlements, Ms Angela Kairuki said the president has no authority to release a convicted criminal, referring to Mr Lowassa’s recent claims that he would release jailed musician Nguza Viking alias Babu Seya.
Ms Kairuki said that the claims do not adhere to rules of good governance, adding that what Babu Seya did to the victims is disgracing.
She said Tanzanians want to elect a president who’ll protect them by sticking to the rule of law.
“Mr Lowassa clearly demonstrated that he will not follow the rule of law,” she said.
