Fastjet will launch daily flights to Zanzibar from Dar es Salaam on January 11 next year in response to strong passenger and tour operator demand from local and regional market.
The Dar-Zanzibar flight will also be connecting to Johannesburg in South Africa as previous routes were restricted to Tuesday’s and Thursdays of every week.
Fastjet General Manager, Jimmy Kibati said the tickets for the new route are on sale immediately, with one way fares from Dar es Salaam to cost from Sh22,000.
“The fares from Zanzibar will start at as low as Sh22,000, making a return flight to the Spice Islands from Dar es Salaam at only Sh70, 000 including all airport and government taxes” he said.
Fastjet had previously partnered with Dar es Salaam based Coastal Aviation to fly passengers to Zanzibar, but flights were restricted to daylight flight, and involved transfers and luggage collection on the ground in Dar es Salaam.
“Fastjet passengers wanting to fly to Zanzibar will now have a choice of departure days,” he said.
With Fastjet’s cheapest fares almost half the price of existing lowest fares, he said the airline expects more passengers on its flights to the archipelagos.
