Z'bar launches projects worth 95bn/- during 50th anniversary of Revolution

The Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar will launch 103 development projects worth 95bn/- during the climax of its 50th anniversary that will be commemorated on 12 January, 2014.

Several of the projects have already been inaugurated while others are in progress since the President of Zanzibar, Dr. Ali Mohamed Shein officially announced the anniversary celebrations on August 15 this year.

Speaking over the weekend in Dar es Salaam, the Permanent Secretary in the Second Vice President’s Office- Zanzibar, Dr. Khalid Mohamed, said the theme for the celebrations is: “Maintaining peace, unity and solidarity that lead to development.”

He continued to say: “Zanzibar also has made a special logo signifying 50 years of revolution which will be used in various government publications and we have also prepared a special anthem for the 50 years of revolution.”
He said the government is also constructing a tower at Michenzani in Zanzibar town which will be a landmark for the 50 years of revolution and business activities in Zanzibar.

Dr. Mohamed said the government has directed all ministries, institutions and regional authorities on the Isles to prepare reports on implementation of their activities. These should show achievements and challenges of the past 50 years, he said.

Further, he said, the government is preparing a special documentary on the history, responsibilities, achievements and challenges that have faced Zanzibar during the 50 years. It will also include future plans and expectations for the coming 50 years.

He said the documentary will be recorded and distributed to the people through books, websites, audio CDs and DVDs.

The ceremonies will be graced by over 161 events, including an exhibition that will bring together various business people within and outside the Island.

Also at the celebrations will be local and modern sports and entertainment competitions, concerts and forums with various dignitaries from Kenya, Uganda, Comoro Islands, Mozambique , China and Vietnam expected to attend.
