Shein accepts minister’s resignation

PRESIDENT Ali Mohamed Shein has accepted the resignation of Mr Juma Duni Haji as the Zanzibar Minister for Infrastructure and Communications, following his tactical move to Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA) to become the party’s Union presidential running mate.

A coalition of four opposition parties - Civic United Front, National League of Democracy, NCCR-Mageuzi and Chadema -- has named former prime minister Edward Lowassa as the Union presidential candidate.

‘As per section 48 (129) of the Constitution, Dr Shein has accepted the resignation of Mr Juma Duni Haji effective from August 1, 2015,’ a statement by the Zanzibar State House said.

Mr Haji was first appointed as Minister of Health after the formation of Government of National Unity in 2010 until President Shein made a minor cabinet reshuffle last year when he was transferred to the infrastructure and communication ministry.

He has been a CUF cadre holding various posts before he joined CHADEMA as the coalition’s strategy in building a strong opposition against the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi.

Mr Haji was Prof Ibrahim Lipumba’s running mate in 1995, 2000, 2005, and 2010 general elections.
